Despite scoring six goals already this season, the French forward has struggled to get into the team, with boss Jose Mourinho generally preferring Marcus Rashford on the left-wing.
Martial was brought on in the 70th minute of yesterday’s match against Tottenham but made the most of his cameo as he scored the only goal of the game.
And Bailly, who returned to the side after four games out with an injury, is pleased with the positive attitude Martial shows when he doesn’t start.
“I think we have a lot of very good players in the squad,” he said.
“When one does not play, the others do. The good thing about Anthony is that he is always here to help the team whenever he is needed and he showed that today.
“Anthony, mentally, is strong and he showed that today”
Man Utd defender Eric Bailly
“When Rashford plays, Anthony always has that mentality where he is ready to come on and have an impact – which he did by winning the match.
“Anthony, mentally, is strong and he showed that today. He is happy and whenever he has a chance he takes it as we saw today.”
United got back to winning ways following their first defeat of the season last week against Huddersfield.
The loss raised eyebrows, particularly in the wake of a negative performance against Liverpool the week before, but Bailly appreciates that it’s part of the process.
He added: “I think it’s normal that there have been critics.
“You have to accept what they say and get back and train well and perform which we have done.”
United sit second in the Premier League table, five points behind rivals Manchester City, and they face Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday.
