Dimitar Berbatov singled out Manchester United star Anthony Martial for praise before the Red Devils’ Champions League clash against Benfica.
Bulgaria legend Berbatov played with Martial while the pair were both at Monaco – the France international joined United in 2015 for an initial fee of £36million.
Martial has impressed under Jose Mourinho since the start of last season and scored a late winner as United beat title rivals Tottenham 1-0 at the weekend.
Berbatov, who spent four years at Old Trafford, heaped praise on Martial’s potential and said he ‘will not fall asleep’ when he is on the pitch.
Asked about United’s team prior to the Benfica match, he told BT Sport: ‘The guy for me is Martial, I know him from Monaco and love watching him and how he plays.
‘He’s got great confidence, he goes past players easily – he’s so fast and strong. His finishing is improving, too.
‘When Jose plays him, I know I won’t fall asleep.’
Mourinho’s United are second in the Premier League but the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss has received criticism for his style of player this term.
Manchester United 2017/18 Fixtures

Newcastle United (H) – Sat 18 Nov
Basel (A) – Wed 22 Nov (Champions League)
Brighton (H) – Sat 25 Nov

But club legend Paul Scholes insists he does not care about the style as long as his former team continue to challenge for titles.
‘They’re in a position where they brought a manger in to win games and trophies and ultimately the league,’ the former England midfielder said.
‘I don’t think Jose does it that way, first and foremost he’s a defensive coach. He’s showing that, we have to accept his style of football, he’s very successful at doing it.
‘I’m just happy they’re winning games and up there. Philosophies have to go out the window.’
