Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho wants huge pay rise to stay, talks scheduled with Ed Woodward

Mourinho initially signed a three-year contract when he succeeded Louis van Gaal in May 2016.

At present, the Portuguese tactician is thought to take home around £12million a year.

After a successful debut campaign at the helm of Old Trafford outfit which saw Mourinho lift the League Cup and Europa League trophies, he has enjoyed a good start to this season.

United sit five points behind Manchester City in the Premier League table in second spot and they are on the verge of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in four years.

As far as Mourinho is concerned, he feels he should be suitably rewarded for his work to date.

The Sunday Mirror claim Mourinho wants a £3million-a-year pay hike.

The report also suggests his agent, Jorge Mendes, has scheduled talks in the New Year with the executive vice chairman Ed Woodward.

With United’s success so far, Mourinho has already hit some key performance targets with lead sponsors Adidas and Chevrolet.

United meanwhile, will be looking to pile the misery on Chelsea when they make the trip to Stamford Bridge later today (4.30pm).

Antonio Conte’s men had a week to forget after their 3-0 defeat at the hands of Roma in the Champions League in midweek.
