Mourinho on Lukaku

09:00: Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho there is no drama behind his decision to stop Romelu Lukaku from taking a penalty against Benfica.

After Marcus Rashford was fouled, Lukaku grabbed the ball then Ander Herrera looked set to take it but from the touchline Mourinho instructed Daley Blind to have the responsibility.

Mourinho said: “I am paid to take decisions good or bad.

“In the first half, the decision was bad. In the second half, I made another decision and I don’t see the drama.

“The penalty-taker for this match was Martial, he was not even on the pitch for the second one. Romelu wants to take, he has the personality and character to take the responsibility, Herrera was the same, but my decision was based on training in the past couple of days.”

Celtic pair wanted

08:30: Manchester United are at the front of the queue to sign Celtic duo Kieran Tierney and Moussa Dembele.

Tierney signed a new long-term deal on Monday but that has not put off the Red Devils.

The Mirror claim United are long-term admirers of full-back Tierney and midfielder Dembele and scouting them in their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.

The duo are said to cost over £50million.

Neville’s Matic rant

08:00: Phil Neville says whoever sanctioned the sale Nemanja Matic to Manchester United at Chelsea should be sacked after the Premier League champions were beaten by Roma in the Champions League.

“What’s gone wrong for Chelsea? One word. Matic,” Neville told BBC 5Live.

“It’s as simple as that. The minute they sold Nemanja Matic was a mistake.

“When you had Matic sat in front of you, alongside [N’Golo] Kante, there was protection. Whoever made that decision needs sacking. That is one of the poorest decisions I have ever seen in the Premier League.

“If you ask any of those Chelsea players who they would want back, they would say Matic. Chelsea replaced him with someone who is going to do the same job – [Tiemoue] Bakayoko is not that player, he is not a holding midfield player.

“They didn’t replace Matic. I wouldn’t have let him out of the building, I would have chained him to the training ground walls.”
