Man Utd news: Luke Shaw set for January loan move as Jose Mourinho looks to trim squad

Mourinho wants to bring more players in but has been told to sell before he buys to balance the book – and the size of his squad.

Mourinho has already used 25 players this season and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo are nearing fitness and could come into contention before Christmas.

And he wants to sign Danny Rose and Antoine Griezmann over the next 12 months.

But another left back would take his options to six for that position with Shaw and Rojo joined by Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young.

And Shaw is the one who has the biggest sale value, but the Manchester Evening News claim he could leave in January on loan.

Mourinho is yet to be sold on Shaw and has not selected him in the Premier League this season.

The 22-year-old has made just two League Cup substitute appearances for Manchester United this term having returned to training from injury.

And he could be given a short term exit in a bid to build up his fitness ahead of a permanent switch.

Tottenham is one option for Shaw where he would be reunited with Mauricio Pochettino, who he worked with at Southampton and where there would be an opening if Rose leaves.

While a return to Southampton could also work if Ryan Bertrand leaves for Manchester City.

A source told the Sun last week: “It looks like Luke will be allowed to leave in January on loan if the right offer comes in.

“He has been on the bench a few times recently but his injury problems are a concern. Marcos Rojo is back soon and Jose is considering his options.”
