Napoli forward Dries Mertens has admitted he is interested in a move to the Premier League with Manchester United keen on signing the Belgian.
The 30-year-old scored 34 goals in 45 games last season and was rewarded with a new contract in the summer.
However, Mertens has a £25million release clause written into his deal and Napoli director Pierpaolo Marino admitted last month that United had been watching the forward ‘very closely’.
Napoli top the Serie A table after a fanstastic start to the season and, while Mertens says he’s happy in Naples, he’s left the door open for a move to England.
‘I’m happy in Italy and I’m fine at Napoli,’ said Mertens.
‘But maybe in the future I could come to England.’
Mourinho is known to be keen on signing a creative forward and is targeting a move for Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil in January.
United missed out on Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic last summer but Mourinho’s expected to use the international break to look over possible targets.
