Tiemoue Bakayoko put in arguably his best performance in a Chelsea shirt since joining from Monaco in a £40million summer switch against Manchester United and played an integral role in securing three points for Antonio Conte’s side.
The France international put in an all-action display in midfield and dragged Chris Smalling away from Alvaro Morata with a fine dummy run, with the Spaniard heading the ball past David De Gea in exquisite fashion.
Things haven’t all gone the 23-year-old’s way since arriving at Stamford Bridge and he has been on the receiving end of plenty of criticism, particularly with the man he replaced – Nemanja Matic – shining under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
But after out-performing the Serb at Stamford Bridge, Bakayoko should be incredibly proud of his performance as he proved those who had doubted him wrong.
However, that’s not to say his performance was perfect.
The French ace missed a couple of great chances, which he wasted with some fairly woeful finishing – although, ultimately it didn’t impact the result.
After the match, Bakayoko took to Twitter to mock his own finishing and insist it will be an area he’s working on.
‘I need to work in front of the goal really 😂🙈…’ he said.
‘Good performance of the team I like this 💪🏾💪🏾 #CHEMUN #Bluesfamily 💙💙’
