The hitmen have enjoyed strong starts to the 2017/18 campaign, plundering 15 top flight goals between them already.
And they’ll both be out to impress once again when Tottenham go head-to-head with United at Old Trafford on Saturday (12.30pm).
Le Tissier knows a thing or two about scoring goals having smashed in 209 in 541 appearances for Southampton.
And he’s now revealed he’d sooner have Tottenham youth product Kane among his ranks than £75m United signing Lukaku.
Le Tissier told Sky Sports: “Harry Kane has to be my striker.
“Romelu Lukaku has had a cracking start and the two of them are excellent players but I just think Kane’s form at the moment and over a longer period of time justifies him getting the nod.”
Le Tissier did suggest some of the criticism Lukaku’s faced during his Premier League career has been unfair though.
“However, I don’t really go with the idea that Lukaku can’t score in big games,” Le Tissier added.
“For me it is more about the amount of chances created for him. Their games against Liverpool are a good example, with Kane having seven shots, scoring twice, whereas Lukaku had just the one effort.
“He’s unlucky not to get in there, as is Henrikh Mkhitaryan, while [Eric] Bailly and [Antonio] Valencia were close, but these are two very good sides [United and Tottenham] and I think it will be a really tight encounter on Saturday.”
United can close the gap on table-topping local rivals Manchester City to two points this weekend.
Jose Mourinho’s side must beat Tottenham and Pep Guardiola’s men have to lose to West Brom for that to happen.
United then face a return to Champions League action against Benfica next Tuesday night (7.45pm).
