Luke Shaw and Jose Mourinho are reportedly not on the same page.
According to the Guardian’s Jamie Jackson, Shaw fears for his career at Manchester United after falling out with Mourinho. Their relationship apparently broke down to the extent that the English left-back no longer sees a way back into the Red Devils’ starting lineup and is concerned that his career at Old Trafford is effectively over, while the Special One is unhappy with the product of Southampton‘s attitude.
Shaw played just three minutes in United’s 2-0 victory at Swansea City in the Carabao Cup’s fourth round, which marked only his second appearance of the season. He replaced Axel Tuanzebe, who is 19 years old and made his first senior appearance of the campaign in a back-three that included Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof.
“You are just kind of waiting for your opportunity to play and the gaffer told me earlier this afternoon that I was involved so I was chuffed and I gave it my all,” Tuanzebe said. “Under him (Mourinho), there’s a lot of pressure, so you have to perform and dealing with that pressure makes you a better player so I’m glad I’ve got that burden on me.”
Shaw, who suffered a double fracture of his right leg in 2015, was devalued by Mourinho in April, as the Portuguese manager declared: “I cannot compare the way he trains and commits, the focus, the ambition. He is a long way behind.”
